Health Benefits of Organic Food



Organic food is termed as certified food, which is produced in accordance with some production standards. It is grown in organic farms and vigorously monitored by the officials of a certification body, during the production. Unlike natural food, organic food stuffs are generally grown without the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. They are often labeled to differentiate them from the natural ones, because both are similar in terms of color, size and shape. Organic food not only involves fruits, vegetables and grains, but also the products derived from livestock.

Organic foods are more nutritious than conventionally grown foods. The health benefits of organic food are more perceived than real. Organic food is not prepared using chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and does not affect the human body. It is overall best for health. Moreover, it tastes better than non organic food. 

  As harmful chemicals are not used in organic farming, there is minimum soil, air and water pollution; thus ensuring a safe world for future generations to live in. Organic products maintain ecological balance. Animal welfare is also an important factor for producing organic milk and organic poultry.  Whereas Organic milk is healthier than non organic milk as organic cows are grazed which results in better quality of milk. Organic food stays longer, without decaying, than the natural food.

Organic refers to the way farmers grow and process agricultural products like fruits, vegetables, grains and everything. Organic farming encourages soil and water conservation which leads to reduction in pollution.

Evidence on substantial differences between organic food and conventional food is insufficient to make claims that organic food is safer or healthier than conventional food. With respect to taste, the evidence is also insufficient to make scientific claims that organic food tastes better. Processed organic food usually contains only organic ingredients. If non-organic ingredients are present, at least a certain percentage of the food's total plant and animal ingredients must be organic.

Organic food has plenty of advantages when compared to the non-organic food that have been processed with artificial preservatives and chemicals. There also is a widespread public belief that organic food is safer, more nutritious, and tastes better than conventional food; these beliefs have fulled and increased demand for organic food despite higher prices. The perception that organic food is low-calorie food or healthy food also appears to be common among the general people because of various reasons.
Moreover, these organic food contains lower levels of pesticides which means up to 70% of pesticides are banned in the production of organic food. They do not have artificial food colors and flavours, preservatives, nitrates and sulphites, artificial sweeteners. Food is preserved and sweetened naturally using substances such a honey and grape juice. It also has significantly higher levels of nutrients - Depending on the choice of produce, organic food is shown to have higher amounts of salicylic acid and more Vitamin C, iron, calcium, magnesium and phosphorous.
Also in organically reared cattle, they are allowed to grow and develop at their own pace, and without any synthetics injected into their system.Organic farmers do not use GE seeds or irradiation methods. Instead crop rotation and use of natural compost produces a richer soil in which to grown and harvest their produce. And thus organic food plays an important role in our life.
